Ciarán Healy named Aon’s Global Captive Leader

Experienced captive consultant Ciarán Healy will take the reins as Aon’s new Global Captive Leader for Commercial Risk Solutions from 1 January.

Captive Intelligence reported in October that Aon was recruiting for a new Global Captive Leader as John English, currently CEO of Aon Captive & Insurance Management, was moving on to become chairman of Aon Global Risk Consulting (AGRC).

Healy will report into Richard Waterer, global leader for Aon Global Risk Consulting (AGRC). His new role will focus on on accelerating the group’s core capabilities for clients, including captive management, captive advisory, captive reinsurance, insurance linked securities and protected cell companies.

“Ciaran is a highly effective, client-centric and commercially driven leader with great experience to build on the momentum we’re seeing in the captive space and the increasingly central role that captives will assume in Aon’s broader Risk Capital strategy across Reinsurance and Commercial Risk,” Waterer said.

“Under Ciaran’s leadership, Aon’s captive team will deliver further innovation as our clients increasingly turn to options outside the traditional insurance market to protect and grow their businesses.”

Healy will lead a team of more than 500 colleagues.

Healy has worked in captive insurance for 20 years, beginning as an accountant at the Hertz captive – Probus Insurance Limited – in 2004.

The news means the two largest captive managers in the world will be under a new generation of leadership in the new year, with William Thomas-Ferrand succeeding Ellen Charnley at Marsh Captive Solutions.

Healy joined Aon Insurance Managers in Dublin in 2007, and also worked in consulting roles at EY and WTW before returning to Aon as director client solutions for EMEA in 2019.

Healy has been chief commercial officer for EMEA within Aon Global Risk Consulting since December 2022.
