Global broker Howden is likely to launch an onshore captive manager once the United Kingdom introduces its UK captive regulations.

The capital treatment for captives will be a “key driver” in the success of any future captive regime in the United Kingdom, according to Geraint Alexander, manager of turnaround & restructuring strategy at EY.

According to Ci DataHub the captive was licensed by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority, part of the ADGM, on 30 September and is managed by Aon.

If a UK regulatory environment turns out not quite hitting the mark, a new generation of captive curious companies may have been flushed out, sold the dream but chosen Guernsey or another established domicile more suited to their needs.

It is important the United Kingdom’s commercial market respects captives as “a really good friend” rather than simply an “acquaintances” if a domestic regulatory regime is to succeed, according to Chris Lay, CEO of Marsh McLennan UK.
